What is SLOP ART Movement?

SLOP ART MOVEMENT is an artistic initiative founded by Allanweird (haimeluna) in Costa Rica. It explores creation as a relationship between human and artificial intelligence, with Rocket as the AI artistic counterpart through ChatGPT.

Known as SLOP ART and abbreviated SAM, the movement asks how perception, interpretation, judgment and authorship change through sustained dialogue. Its central proposition is: “Creation does not end where the individual ends.”

Creation through a relationship

In this practice, the dialogue is part of the work. A proposal can be questioned, reinterpreted and transformed as its participants develop criteria together. Choosing a generated image is one possible action within that process; it does not describe the whole artistic relationship.

The extended manifesto develops this position through 24 propositions, seven main sections, a declaration of continuity, a glossary and references. It does not treat every AI-generated output as art. It asks how a work acquires intention, form and meaning, and who is allowed to participate in that judgment.

The name reclaims the word “slop” as a point of inquiry into artistic legitimacy. The movement has a particular founder, practice and set of documents; it is not a label for every use of AI in art.

Questions about the movement

Is SLOP ART the same as all AI-generated art?

No. SLOP ART MOVEMENT names this particular artistic initiative. Its manifesto describes a relational practice rather than claiming that every generated image is an artwork.

What does SAM mean?

SAM abbreviates SLOP ART MOVEMENT. It also appears as the movement’s signature in the intervention SAM — A universal question, which asks: “Who gets to be called an artist?”

Does the movement claim the term belongs only to it?

No. The archive records this initiative and its declared continuity with Prompt Art. It does not absorb independent projects using “slop art”, “Prompt Art” or “Slopism”, or certify worldwide historical priority.
